Didactic Activities

Course title: Neuroanatomy, Embryogenesis and Development of the CNS

Total number of hours on the entire cycle: 12

Distribution during the PhD cycle: first year

Course description: The course will provide the anatomical and embryological basis of the structure of the CNS, with particular reference to functionally relevant areas for the pathophysiology of neurodegenerative and neuroinflammatory diseases

Course title: Cellular and Molecular Neurobiology and Neuropathology

Total number of hours over the entire cycle: 24

Distribution during the PhD cycle: first year

Course description: The course will provide the neurobiological basis of the dysfunctions that characterize the main pathologies of the nervous system, with insights into the neuropathological field of interest for the diagnosis and treatment of the pathologies themselves.

Course title: Neurogenetics

Total number of hours over the entire cycle: 12

Distribution during the PhD cycle: second year

Course description: The course will provide the fundamental principles of medical genetics and their applications to human neurogenetics, necessary for the diagnostic and prognostic classification of familial and sporadic forms of the main neuropathologies.

Course title: Scientific English

Total number of hours on the entire cycle: 36

Distribution during the PhD cycle: first, second and third year

Course description: Through the guided reading and understanding of scientific texts, the course intends to facilitate the use of scientific English in presentations, in writing projects and scientific works, as well as in interpersonal communication during international research experiences

Course title: Models, mechanisms and treatment of cerebral ischemia

Total number of hours on the entire cycle: 8

Distribution during the PhD cycle: first, second and third year

Course description: The course, divided into lessons held by specifically invited internal and external teachers, aims to provide the molecular, cellular and circuit bases of the damage associated with cerebral ictal pathologies, with reference to ischemic, cerebral hemorrhagic stroke and subarachnoid.

Course name: Channels and ion transporters and CNS pathologies

Total number of hours on the entire cycle: 8

Distribution during the PhD cycle: first, second, and third year

Course description: The course, divided into lessons held by specifically invited internal and external teachers, aims to provide the molecular, cellular and circuit bases of the damage associated with CNS hyperexcitability pathologies related to an altered function of channels and ion transporters, with particular reference to monogenic epilepsies of developmental age (CNS channelopathies).

Course name: Mitochondrial dysfunctions in neurodegenerative pathologies

Total number of hours on the entire cycle: 8

Distribution during the PhD cycle: first, second and third year

Course description: The course, divided into lessons held by specifically invited internal and external teachers, has the objective of defining the molecular mechanisms underlying the mitochondrial dysfunction responsible for many neurodegenerative diseases, with particular reference to Parkinson’s disease on a sporadic and hereditary, also highlighting possible treatment targets.
